The Lodge At Chaa Creek Rainforest Reserve, Adventure Centre, and Spa is located along banks of the Macal River, in the foothill of the Maya Mountains, only a short drive from San Ignacio Town.
At the airport, ask the rental agency for a map. It takes about 1.5 hours to get from the Belize International Airport to Chaa Creek.
Exit the airport: From the terminal of the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE), follow the signs for the airport access road (sometimes labelled “Airport Road” or “Terminal Road”).
Take the roundabout onto John Smith Road: Soon after you leave the airport access road, you will reach a roundabout where you join John Smith Road heading west/northwards toward the George Price Highway. The road is well-marked but still new.
Follow John Smith Road to the George Price Highway: Continue along John Smith Road, crossing the Belize River via the new bridge and passing through marshland/low elevation sections until you reach the roundabout at the junction with the George Price Highway (Western Highway).
Turn onto the Western Highway (George Price Highway) toward San Ignacio: At that roundabout, take the exit that leads you west/south-west toward San Ignacio. This is the main route to Cayo District.
Continue on the George Price Highway toward San Ignacio/Santa Elena: Drive on this highway for approximately 60-70 miles (≈100-110 km) depending on your exact route, staying on the main paved highway. You’ll pass through or near San Ignacio/Santa Elena.
Approach Chaa Creek: Once you are heading west towards the town of Benque Viejo Del Carmen, look for signage for Chaa Creek Lodge. Typically you will see their signpost, then turn onto a smaller (often unpaved) road Chial Road that leads up to the lodge property.
Final drive on Chial Road: This last stretch may be unpaved/dirt and narrower than the highway. Drive cautiously especially if it has recently rained.
