Chaa Creeks new cultural culinary course offers an exceptional hands-on experience for the inquisitive epicurean adventurer. Offered daily recognizing our five distinct cultures.
Chaa Creek’s Open Hearth is an exciting new culinary experience that turns learning about Belize’s cultures and cuisine into a rewarding hands-on learning adventure.
Each day of the week a different culture and cuisine will be featured in a purpose-built kitchen classroom. On Maya Fridays, for example, the adventure begins with an introduction into the history and culture of this fascinating, highly advanced ancient civilisation. Participants will then don aprons and, guided by a cook with expertise in that particular area, begin cooking.
Likewise, Mestizo Mondays, East-Indian Tuesdays, Creole Wednesdays and, Garifuna Thursdays and will highlight the culinary traditions of those cultures while honing your kitchen skills.
At the end of each two-hour session participants and cooks will gather around the table to enjoy the meals they just cooked. Family and friends may also join in for a special lunch price.
The Open Hearth is an airy, thatched-roof traditional Belizean “Bush Kitchen,” with small class sizes that make for an informal, enjoyable and highly effective way to learn.
Care has been taken to replicate recipes with ingredients that can be found overseas, and each guest will receive a complimentary spice packet to take away, along with printed recipes and a brochure describing each culture that has been covered.
Open Hearth classes run approximately two hours, finishing in time for lunch.
By combining culture and cuisine in a traditional kitchen setting, the Open Hearth goes beyond traditional cooking courses and will leave guests with a deeper appreciation of the unique culinary and cultural heritage that makes Belize such fascinating country.
